Zoom - Copyright & Fair Use: A how-to for education

Zoom - Copyright & Fair Use: A how-to for education

Do you often find yourself wondering whether you can use a certain image, video, article, or table in your teaching and scholarship? Do you waiver between asking permission or begging for forgiveness later? This class will empower you to confidently make basic copyright decisions.  Using your real-life scenarios, we will introduce and apply the concept fo fair use (an exception to copyright) and will examine Creative Commons licensing as a way to lower risk.  Class topics include:

  1. What is the purpose of copyright?
  2. What is copyrightable and what is not?
  3. Copyright ownership as a university employee.
  4. Applying fair use to participant copyright scenarios

This is an active discussion class, please bring your own copyright situations/concerns. The first hour of the class is an introduction to copyright, fair use, and Creative Commons with the remaining 30 minutes reserved for continued discussion of any participant questions.

Zoom meeting information will be sent to you after you register.
You will receive the Zoom information in a follow-up message in the 24 hours leading up to your session.
